By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Prime Minister John Briceño on Saturday paid his respects at The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial, in Berlin, Germany.

“As I stood paying my respects at the The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial, in Berlin, my thoughts were on our Belize and our national pride as a multicultural nation,” said Prime Minister John Briceño in a social media post.

“This visit is particularly pointed as home we begin to celebrate our national identity and all that is Belize and Belizean.

“The Holocaust Memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust was designed by architects Peter Eisenman and Buro Happold,” he said.

“The systematic state-sponsored killing of six million Jewish men, women, and children and millions of others by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II,” says Britannica in its description of the Holocaust.

Prime Minister Briceño quoted British statesman Winston Churchill who wrote, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

“Lessons from the past may not always ward off doom, but they can provide insights into the present and even the future,” said the Belize Prime Minister.
