By Benjamin Flowers: The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Tropical Storm Earl, is expected to bring showers to the Virgin Island and Puerto Rico tonight and into Monday.
Late this evening the NHC said Earl, which formed on Friday, September 2, was about 110 miles north of St. Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and moving northwest at 5 miles per hour.
The storm is expected to drop between three and five inches of rain as it makes its way northwest, and forecasters believe it could strengthen into a hurricane sometime in the week. The NHC warned that rains from Earl could cause “rapid rises on rivers and mudslides.”
There are two Tropical Storms, Danielle, which briefly became the season’s first hurricane, and Tropical Storm Earl, which have formed since Thursday, September 1. None of them have posed any threat to Belize.
