San Pedro Pirates down Benque Viejo United 2-1, move up to 4th place in PLB

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates defended the home turf with a 2-1 win over Benque Viejo United at Ambergris Stadium on Saturday night.

The win pushed San Pedro up from fifth to fourth position over Progresso FC who fell 1-2 against Altitude in Independence.

Belize Men’s National Team forward Horace Avila gave the Pirates the lead in the 24 and Moisés Hernández converted the game winner in the 31’.

Juan Ocampo scored Benque’s consolation goal in the 75’.

The win not only moved San Pedro to fourth place but put them in contention for the third spot with Wagiya who only edged them out on number of goals scored (9-6) as both are tied at ten and at +2-goal differential. Wagiya have scored nine goals and allowed seven while San Pedro have netted six times and allowed four goals.

Benque Viejo United remained in the seventh position with four points from a win, a draw, and four losses.
