Two brothers stabbed in Belize City during J’ouvert

By Benjamin Flowers: Two brothers were stabbed in Belize City on Saturday morning, during the J’ouvert celebration that preceded Carnival Day 2022.

Sr. Superintendent Hilberto Romero, Deputy Commander of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, said that a man attacked Keon and Calvert Young at the corner of Majestic Alley and Queen Street and stabbed them both in the body.

Keon Young was treated and released while Calvert Young has to undergo surgery and is still hospitalized, listed in stable condition.

“We do not know[why]. We know that there were crowds of people in the area and at some point, they were attacked. There were police officers at the event, some were at the front, some were at the back and some were around the crowd, but somehow this person came, there were a lot of people there and he managed to get inside the crowd,” Romero said.

He also said that police have no information of a prior altercation that would explain the stabbing.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
