By Breaking Belize News Staff: This week a number of students returning to classes in Belmopan, did so with a brand new backpack courtesy of the Belmopan City Council.
The Council, through the office of the Mayor Sharen Palacio, held a backpack drive and distributed the bags to students to make their first day back to school even more special.
“This is a priority for us at the council as we place the highest emphasis on education and the development of our youth populace into model citizens. To ensure this we remain committed to being resourceful and assisting our youth to achieve their full potential in any way we can,” the Council said.
The backpack drive came as a result of weekly meet and greets held by Mayor Palacio, to find out the pressing concerns and needs of city residents.
Following the distribution of the bags, Mayor Palacio encouraged city residents to continue participating in the meetings at City Hall, to keep an open flow of communication between the city and its residents.
