Guatemalan woman busted with crack remanded to prison to participate in drug rehab program

By Breaking Belize News: A 23-year-old Guatemalan national charged with being found with crack cocaine, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison so she can get some help.

Yesenia Marisel Coredo Recinos, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where she was charged with one count of possession of control drugs for an undetermined amount of crack, and one count of possession of a pipe for smoking drugs.

Recinos was hysterical in court and given a few minutes to compose herself before entering a plea. She pleaded guilty to both charges and pleaded with the court to be sent to prison so she can seek help.

The court sentenced her to three months in jail, where she is to enroll in the drug rehabilitation program offered by the Kolbe Foundation.

On August 30, police were about to search Recinos’s house for illegal firearms and asked her if she had anything to declare.

She acknowledged that she did and then handed over the crack and the pipe to the officers.
