International News: Four dead in wildfires as parts of U.S. face extreme heat

Posted: Tuesday, September 6, 2022. 2:35 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Over 50 million people in the west of the United States are under heat alert due to a prolonged heat wave, CNN reports.

Sweltering temperatures have been reported causing blackouts and wildfires.

Four people died in wildfires in California and others were rescued in Arizona after suffering heat exhaustion.

Scientists say that the heat is getting worse because of the human-caused climate crisis.

A fire in Riverside county, Southern California burned 2,000 acres, destroying at least 7 structures and damaging several more.

Families from more than 5,000 homes were forced to evacuate.

Another fire in Northern California burned over 4,200 acres and destroyed 117 structures. Elsewhere, the Mountain Fire had burned another 11,700 acres.

Prolonged drought has left behind a “huge amount of dead fuel,” California Fire Battalion Chief Jon Heggie said calling the conditions “extremely dangerous.”
