Minister of Education encourages parents, educators to work together to support our students

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Monday, September 5th, 2022 marked day 1 of the 2022-2023 academic year. Thousands of students across the country returned to face-to-face classes after a 2-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology Francis Fonseca joined in the excitement of the first day of classes sharing photos of students and encouraging parents and educators to work together to support students.

“The past 2 years have been challenging and frustrating for our education community. It was absolutely heartwarming to see so many families sharing pictures on social media of their beautiful children returning to school. Our children are excited about the new school year,  seeing their teachers,  meeting old and new friends,  learning new things,” Fonseca said.

“Many of them are understandably very anxious and nervous about the new school year. We must all work together to support our children’s education. The Ministry of Education has a clear,  bold,  progressive Education Strategy Plan which seeks to: reform the education system, transform teaching and learning, prioritize underserved sectors and maximize human capital,” Fonseca added.

Fonseca committed that the Ministry will do its part but said that management, churches, teachers, students, families, and communities must also be involved to support students, encourage them and love them.

“There is no better gift that you can give your child than that of quality education. There is no better investment that you can make as a family and that we can make as a Country than that we make in the Education of our Children,” the Minister said.

Fonseca also extended gratitude to all educators on the frontline of education.

“We value your service.  We respect you.  We honor you.”
