President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, visits next week

By Aaron Humes: Belize will officially host the President of the Republic of Rwanda in East Africa, Paul Kagame, on September 14 and 15, making him the first African head of state to visit Belize.

The invitation was first extended during the June 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda by Prime Minister John Briceño in recognition of his “visionary leadership and complete transformation of Rwanda, from a country devastated by genocide in 1994 to one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.”

President Kagame will be conferred with the Order of Belize on September 14, 2022 and address members of the House of Representatives and the Senate at a joint special sitting as well as students at the University of Belize.

The President will sign agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries on September 15, 2022.
