By Aaron Humes: Caribbean neighbour and the world’s most recent republican state, Barbados, has presented a High Commissioner to Belize, David Commissiong.
Today he presented his letter of credence to H.E. Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor-General of Belize, at the Belize House in Belmopan.
The High Commissioner shared that Barbados values Belize as a trusted ally and a critical partner in the mission to advance the Caribbean Community. He assured the Governor-General that Belize will always be able to rely on active solidarity and support from Barbados.
The Governor-General in turn graciously accepted the letter of credence and welcomed the High Commissioner to Belize. On behalf of the people of Belize, the Governor General wished him well during his tenure of service.
Barbados became a republic last November on its independence anniversary. Its Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, subsequently won re-election in January and has become a regional political voice.
