Altitude still command Premier League of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After six weeks of exciting action, Altitude FC are still commanding the Premier League of Belize. Just one week they relinquished the lead to Verdes but the following game they regained the top spot and now lead with 15 points.

The Independence-side have won five games and lost only one. Along with third place Wagiya, they are the top scoring team with nine goals to their favour. So far, they’ve allowed only three goals.

Altitude also sport the tournament’s top scorer on Colombian Andrés Orozco who has found the net five times.

National champions Verdes are in second place with 12 points from three wins and three draws. The Green Machine are the only undefeated team so far in the opening championship. They’ve scored six goals and allowed two.

Third place belongs to Dangriga‘s Wagiya. The southern side have ten points from three draws, a draw, and two losses. Like Altitude, they’ve scored nine times, but have allowed seven goals.

The San Pedro Pirates are in fourth place with ten points as well from three wins, a draw, and two losses. Tied in points and goal differential (+2) with Wagiya, the Pirates conceded third place because of the number of goals scored. Wagiya have scored nine to the Pirates’ six.

The Corozal-District team playing out of Orange Walk, Progresso FC, occupy the fifth spot. Progresso have nine points from three wins and three losses. They scored five goals and allowed a similar number.

Belize City’s Port Layola are next in sixth with seven points from two wins, a draw, and three losses. So far, Port have scored on three occasions but have conceded six.

Benque Viejo United are in seventh position with four points from a victory, a draw, and four losses. The Benque side have scored two times and been scored upon seven times.

The Belmopan Bandits find themselves in the last position with one solitary point from a draw and five losses. Accustomed to higher heights, the Belmopan side are in a rebuilding process but management says they’re totally supportive of their young team.
