Two more Belizean women footballers get US university scholarships

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “We are happy to announce that Lincoln university selected two of our national team players to continue their Education and play football,” wrote the Football Federation of Belize’s Director of Women’s Football Iris Centeno in a social media post congratulating Rumberas defender Carlene Tillet from Belize City and midfielder Roshanny Rodriguez of Valley of Peace.

Both will be studying at Lincoln University in Oakland, California, in the United States under full athletic scholarships. They are joining 16 other young players that the FFB announced in July had received either part-time or full athletic scholarships to study in American universities.

Centeno advised other young players to prepare for the future and for the possibilities of scholarships.

“We ask all our football athletes to start getting good grades, complete your high school and start building a good football profile,” she said.

“Start keeping records of your games and try to reach the highest level in football. We will keep recommending as many players as possible. We are sure you will be the next lucky one to be selected by one of those universities.”
