By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2021-2022 Opening Season National Women’s Champions Jewel are on their way to San Jose, Costa Rica to represent Belize at the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA FORWARD Interclubs Championship.
Jewel Fury is traveling from Belize to Cancun, Mexico, by road and then flying from Cancun to San Jose.
The eight-team regional women’s club championship will be played at five different stadia in Costa Rica from September 11 to 17. All teams arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica on Friday, September 9, and leave on Sunday, September 18.
The Football Federation of Belize said in a letter dated February 25, 2022, that they would represent Belize at the regional tournament as the 2021-2022 Opening Season National Women’s Champions.
Jewel Fury will be facing Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Guatemala Suchitepéquez, and El Salvador’s Club Deportivo FAS in Group A.
Group B consists of defending champions Saprissa of Costa Rica, Tauro FC of Panama, Somotillo FC of Nicaragua, and Olimpia of Honduras.
Jewel Fury’s first game will pit them against Alajuelense at 6:00 pm on Sunday at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium, September 11. They then face Suchitepéquez at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13, at the Liga Deportiva Alajuelense High-Performance Facility (CAR LDA) and close against C.D. FAS at 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 15 at the Morera Soto.
The playoffs for seventh place, fifth place, third place, and the championship will play on Saturday, September 17.
