By Breaking Belize News: A Benque Viejo taxi driver was fined in court this week after he was caught transporting two Dominican Republic nationals who did not have proper documentation.
Twenty-three-year-old Misael Shamir Salazar, was stopped at a checkpoint in Ladyville village on Tuesday with the two men in his vehicle.
He appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where he was charged with two counts of facilitating the commission of a crime, with respect to the immigration offenses his passengers were committing.
Salazar was fined$1,000 plus $5 cost of court for each passenger for a total of $2,010.
He must pay his fine by December 30, 2022, or he will spend six months in jail for default.
