BREAKING: Body suspected to be bridge jumper from Melchor recovered in Benque

By Aaron Humes: Benque Viejo Police will on Friday morning recover a body spotted in the Mopan River in Benque Viejo Town, Cayo District.

According to police, the body was spotted around 5:30 this evening along the north side of the river, face down and apparently decomposing.

An investigation found that a man, other particulars not known, jumped off a bridge in Melchor de Mencos, Peten, on Sunday, September 4, went under the water and failed to resurface until he was allegedly spotted on the Belizean side today.

Police have secured the scene and will process it early on Friday and remove the body – and hopefully learn who it belongs to.

Police investigation continues.
