Man walks free from charge of assaulting his stepson with a knife after the complainant asked for no further court action

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man accused of attacking his stepson with a knife walked free from the charge this week after the complainant decided not to pursue the matter in court.

Thirty-seven-year-old Francisco Esponeza appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of aggravated assault for inflicting cut wounds on the leg of Elmer Martinez back in July 2021.

In court, the prosecutor said that Martinez did not want any further action in the matter, and had not shown up to court to testify against Esponeza.

The matter was dismissed for want of prosecution.

The stabbing reportedly occurred after Esponeza woke up to Martinez choking him inside his home.
