By Rubén Morales Iglesias: More than a month has passed, and the family of Zian Joevany Pech still doesn’t know anything about him and are losing hope.
Pech, who is from Bullet Tree, was reportedly last seen in the village at about 3:30 pm on Sunday, July 31, when he was headed to work at a shop on Joseph Andrews Drive in San Ignacio, Cayo, said initial reports.
However, subsequent reports from family sources said he went to work in San Ignacio and returned in the night and was last seen at a smoothie shop in Bullet Tree with a friend. According to the family, the friend said he last saw Zian at the football field in the village, That friend was reportedly detained by police for questioning at the time.
Pech was 19 when he disappeared but turned 20 last month.
Now, the Pech family are ready to mount another search party for Zian.
According to the family, countless search parties have been organized in Cayo, San Jose Succotz, Benque Viejo del Carmen, and across the border in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala, but so far, they have had no luck. Family sources said people in Melchor said they have seen him there, but they figure it must be a case of mistaken identity because they’ve not received any tangible news about Zian. Lately the family received reports that Zian had been seen in the Placencia and Seine Bight area. They went there but it was a false lead.
The family said Zian didn’t have any ID on him as he had left his Social Security Card, which he had just received, at home.
Zian’s mother Karen Pech said earlier on in August that the police had conducted searches in Bullet Tree, Paslow Falls, Camalote, and Calla Creek but didn’t find anything.
She also said that to get home, he would have had to cross the bridge in the village but the family was told by personnel of the Belize Agriculture Health Authority (BAHA) that he never crossed the bridge the night he disappeared.
Pech is about 5’5”, of fair complexion, had short black curly hair. The last time he was seen he was wearing light-blue long jeans, white Nike tennis shoes, and a beach shirt.
