Police detainee hospitalized after being shot in struggle with officers

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man remains hospitalized after a gun discharge injured him during a struggle with Police on Thursday night.

Rondane Swaso, 22, was according to Police being detained on a charge of handling stolen goods when he attempted to evade the arresting officers.

They set chase and followed him into a bushy lot adjacent to the basketball court on Euphrates Avenue. One of the officers was trying to call for backup when Swaso allegedly came out of the bushes and tried to grab his firearm.

Police say the men struggled and the gun went off, injuring Swaso, who remains in critical condition.

Police investigations continue.
