Port Layola shock Altitude 3-2; Southern club loses PLB top spot

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola shocked Altitude 3-2 at the MCC Grounds in Belize City knocking them off the top spot despite not being able to improve on their sixth-place standing.

Sean Young hit a brace for Port Layola early in the game but Colombian Steven Verdugo responded in kind for Altitude to finish the first half even at 2-2.

Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton unlocked the match in the 55’ to give the Belize City side the 3-2 win.

Port Layola totaled 10 points tying with Progresso but were unable to improve their sixth-place position as the Orange Walk club has a goal difference edge. But Port’s win, coupled with Verdes’ 5-0 rout of the Bandits, dropped Altitude from the top spot to the second position to close the first round of the 2022-23 PLB Opening Championship.
