Belize undefeated after whipping El Salvador in Central American U-19 volleyball championship

By Hugh O’Brien: Belize on Monday evening played its second game in the Central American Under-19 Men’s Volleyball Championship and whipped El Salvador in four (4) sets. This win, combined with the nail biter 5 sets win against Guatemala on Sunday, Belize is closing in on on Central America’s volleyball powerhouse Costa Rica who we face on Wednesday.

In Monday’s game, Belize won the first and second sets with good enough margins but fell in the third set 26-28 to Salvador. Our local boys came back strong in the fourth trouncing the normally formidable Salvadorans 25-10. The sets ended 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 26-28, 25-10) in favour of Belize.

In the victory against Salvador the top scorers according to Afecavol were:

Eleazar Half (BIZ) 26pt
Preston Smith (BIZ) 16pts
Rafael Vargas (ESA) 13pts
Malcolm Murillo (BIZ) 10pts
Marlon Solorzaon (ESA) 10pts

After two games played, Belize remains undefeated and moves up to second place in the tournament.

On Tuesday, Belize will face Nicaragua, on Wednesday Costa Rica and on Thursday Belize will play against Honduras.

The XIV Men’s Under-19 Central American Championship games are being held at the Santa Rosa de Copan Municipal Gymnasium in Honduras.
