Forecasters monitor 2 tropical waves in the Atlantic

Posted: Monday, September 12, 2022. 9:12 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are monitoring 2 tropical waves in the Atlantic.

A tropical wave located just off the west coast of Africa is producing an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions appear only marginally favorable, and any development of this wave should be slow to occur while it moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic through the end of the week.

The second is a tropical wave located midway between the west coast of Africa and the Windward Islands. The tropical wave is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Some slow development of this system is possible over the next several days while it moves generally westward to west-northwestward over the central tropical Atlantic and approaches the Windward Islands by the end of the week.

This system has a 20% chance of formation through the next 5 days.
