International News: Taiwan to resume visa-free travel for over 60 countries

Posted: Monday, September 12, 2022. 10:27 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Effective today, Taiwan will resume visa-free entry to residents of over 60 countries including the U.S., Yahoo reports.

Visitors from those countries will be able to visit Taiwan as long as a 3-day quarantine period is adhered to.

Last month, Taiwan dropped its PCR testing requirements and there are currently no other entry requirements for travelers entering the country.

In 2020, the island took early precautions and had been reluctant to fully open.

Visitors will still need to take tests when arriving in Taiwan and a weekly arrival cap of 50,000 will be adhered to.

“On September 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that to be in line with international trends and to balance the needs of disease prevention efforts and promotion of economic and social activities, Taiwan will restore visa exemption treatment for the nationals of the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, countries in Europe, and Taiwan’s diplomatic allies starting September 12, 2022,” Taiwan’s Center for Disease Control said.

The latest development comes as Taiwan attempts to boost its economic and social activities.
