Patriotic events coming up in the Twin Towns

Posted: Monday, September 12, 2022. 7:43 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: September is a month of celebration as Belizeans both at home and abroad will come together to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Independence from Great Britain.

This year’s September Celebrations theme is: “ Valiant and Bold, Proud and Strong, Belize rebounds at 41.”

After a 2-year- hiatus caused by COVID-19, this year’s celebrations were launched on September 1 with the official flag-raising ceremonies across the country.

And, this year, students around the country will also participate in uniform parades.

In San Ignacio and Santa Elena, students will participate in a school rally on Friday, September 16, 2022.

Also on the calendar of events for September 16 is the Belikin Beer Fest at the Welcome Center from 7 pm to 2 am.

Then on Saturday, September 17, Dunamis Ministries is hosting a Christian Youth Explosion from 7pm to 10pm.

The Cayo Jouvert will also be held on Saturday at the Macal Park from 9 pm to 2 am.

A cycling race will be held on Sunday, September 18.

The Twin Towns will celebrate National Service Day on Monday, September 19.

September 19 marks the return of the “We Bless your City” revival service at the Victor Galvez Stadium from 7 pm to 10 pm.

The official flag raising ceremony and fireworks display will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in front of the administration building in San Ignacio from 9 pm to 1 am.

The Independence Day Ceremony will be held at the Santa Elena Sports Complex in Santa Elena Town at 2 pm on September 21. The parade will leave from there and go through the principal streets of Santa Elena and San Ignacio.

As Belize celebrates its 41st Independence, let us embrace our diverse culture and uniqueness and exhibit with pride our heritage and all those things that make the 8,867 square miles home!

I have missed our students participating in cultural presentations including those songs by Lord Laro, “ Ya da fu we Belize” and Leela Vernon’s “ Creole Kulcha” and the original poems about Belize and our wealth untold.

Hope you enjoy Belize at 41 and all the September celebration activities. See you there!
