By Benjamin Flowers: A collision between a passenger bus and a fuel tanker has claimed the lives of at least 20 people, the Latin Post reports.

The incident occurred on the highway from Ciudad Victoria to Monterrey on Saturday, September 10 when the death toll was believed to be at 18; however, two more bodies were pulled from the charred remains of the bus on Sunday.

Both vehicles were completely destroyed by fire in the accident, as the tanker was carrying a chemical called varsol, which is considered to be a chemically stable petroleum derivative used to remove grease.

Authorities have confirmed that eight of the crash victims came from the state of Hidalgo, and 11 were from the gulf state of Veracruz. Information on the 20th victim is still unknown at this time. It is still not known where the 20th person killed hailed from, according to authorities.

Notably, the driver of the double-tanker fuel truck managed to survive the accident. Authorities have detained him for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the accident.
