By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 8, 2022, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Leyla Moses-Ones and the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Francis Fonseca signed an agreement to bring an innovative NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration program to Belizean schools.
The program – Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) – develops and supports educational activities in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) while contributing to expanding a science-based understanding of planet Earth.
Over 38,000 schools in 126 countries are engaged in the GLOBE program.
Belize is the 127th country to join the worldwide community of students, teachers, scientists, and citizens working together to better understand, sustain and improve the environment.
Through The GLOBE Program, Belizean participants will undertake real-world and hands-on science programs to meaningfully contribute to academic and professional scientific research.
“We are proud to open this new frontier in our partnership with our friends in education. This exciting new venture will engage the next generation of scientists and citizens in global activities to benefit our world,” the U.S. Embassy in Belize said.
