Belize and Uruguay have the most expensive gasoline prices in Latin America

Posted: Tuesday, September 13, 2022. 3:51 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The average price of gasoline worldwide is US$1.34 per liter, according to the Global Petrol Prices site.

However, the situation in most Latin American countries is far from average, says an article on D1SoftballNews.com.

The article states that in Venezuela, the country with the cheapest gasoline, a liter amounts to US$0.022.

“As a general rule, the richest countries have higher prices while the poorest and those that produce oil have significantly cheaper prices. In the international market, all countries have access to the same prices, but in the local market, the differences are notorious and can be explained, for example, by factors such as subsidies and/or taxes that each country decides to impose on gasoline,” the article further notes.

According to the data on the Global Petrol Prices site, Uruguay (almost US$2 per liter) heads the list of countries in the region with the most expensive gasoline followed by Belize (US$1.77 per liter) and Chile (US$1.56 per liter).

Meanwhile, Venezuela has the cheapest gasoline in the region at US$.022 per liter followed by Bolivia (0.542 per liter), and Haiti (US$0.56 per liter).

Colombia is in fourth place among the cheapest with a liter at US$0.057 while Argentina is also among those with more affordable prices and Mexico is in the middle of the table, in 11th place out of 21.

Nicaragua, with a liter at US$1.36 is the country in Latin America with a price closest to the world average.
