By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexican drug lord, Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, 76, who was imprisoned for killing a U.S. agent has been granted house arrest, Reuters report.
Gallardo was a legendary figure in the Guadalajara cartel and a pioneer in trafficking large shipments of cocaine to the United States in alliance with the deceased Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.
He was imprisoned in 1989 for killing a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent.
Gallardo is reportedly in poor health and is expected to move to house arrest today.
The decision comes after Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said last year he was open to releasing Felix Gallardo on the basis of old age and poor health.
