By Breaking Belize News Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring two disturbances in the Atlantic — one of which has a chance of turning into a tropical depression in the next couple of days as it moves closer to the Caribbean Sea.
The NHC noted that the system that could turn into a depression on Tuesday afternoon was about 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and has changed its position very little since this morning.
According to forecasters, the conditions are conducive for the system to develop into a tropical depression this week as it moves west to the west-northwest over the Atlantic and it is expected to approach the Leeward Islands by Friday.
“The system has a 30% chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a 40% chance through the next five days”, the NHC stated this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the second disturbance is near the Cabo Verde Islands and is moving west to the west-northwest over the Atlantic. However, it is no longer producing showers and thunderstorms and its formation chances are decreasing. The NHC said it has no chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a low 10% chance through the next five days.
