Tracy Panton says Minister Milin Espat’s meeting with Melchor voters sends a “RED FLAG”

Posted: Tuesday, September 13, 2022. 10:25 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Last week, PUP Cayo West Area Representative, Milin Espat met with registered Belizean voters in Melchor, Peten in Guatemala, 7News reports.

Espat reportedly distributed school bags to students there as well.

According to 7News, Espat was accompanied by Senator Collet Montejo.

Espat reportedly explained that the voters are just like any other voters in other parts of the world.

However, Guatemala’s territorial, maritime and insular claim on Belize’s territory is being taken to the ICJ and Section 29 of the Constitution of Belize states that “no person shall be granted Belizean nationality if that person is from a country that does not recognize Belize’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

Albert Area Representative, Tracy Panton took to social media to question the purpose of the meeting.

“As the local news reported, a Minister of State from Belize meets with registered Voters in Melchor?  Does this not send up a red flag for you? Guatemalan Citizens are not allowed to become bonafide Citizens of Belize; and, therefore can not be registered to vote.  Guatemala has not relinquished its territorial claim on Belize.  The waters seem muddy, very muddy in fact,” Panton said.

In addition, Panton noted that the meeting occurred amidst the ongoing Amnesty program.

“This in the middle of an ongoing Amnesty Program. If it looks like a duck; if it walks like a duck; and, if it quacks like a duck, the logical conclusion is that it is a duck. Stay Woke BELIZE. Power belongs to the People,” Panton stated.
