Jewel Fury fall 6-3 to Guatemala’s Suchitepéquez in Central American Women’s Interclubs Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On Tuesday, 2021 Belizean football champions Jewel Fury lost 6-1 to Guatemalan champions Suchitepéquez in the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA FORWARD Women’s Interclubs Championship being held in Costa Rica.

Khalydia Velasquez scored Fury’s first goal in the 25’ to put the match at 4-1. Velasquez collected a long pass into the box and beat the defender and keeper to the ball sliding it in to give Fury some hope in the ball game.

The Belmopan side scored two more goals by Janivi Quiroz in the 50’ and Riqa Johnson in the 74’ but Suchitepéquez got two more as well for the final 6-3.

Jewel Fury have now lost their first two games in the regional competition having fallen 11-1 to Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense in Group A on Sunday.

They play their third game against El Salvador’s C.D. FAS at 4:00 pm on Thursday at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela.

Alajuelense won their second game on Tuesday doubling up on El Salvador’s FAS 6-3 to lead Group A with six points.

Defending champions Saprissa of Costa Rica beat Nicaragua’s Somotillo 4-2 in Group B, while Panama’s Tauro FC trounced B Honduran club Olimpia 11-0.

The championship ends on Saturday with the playoffs to determine final placement.
