Posted: Wednesday, September 14, 2022. 9:49 am CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: “The world has never been in a better position to end the COVID-19 pandemic”, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said today urging countries to keep up their efforts against the virus that has killed over six million people.

“We are not there yet. But the end is in sight,” WHO Director-General told reporters at a virtual press conference.

According to data from the WHO, last week’s deaths from COVID-19 were the lowest since March 2020. Meanwhile Maria Kerkhove, the technical lead for COVID-19 at the WHO said that they expect continued future waves of COVID-19 infections, however, the world now has tools in its hands such as vaccines and antivirals to prevent serious infections.

Globally, Monkeypox cases were also down but Director-General Tedros urged countries to keep up the fight.

“As with COVID-19, this is not the time to relax or let down our guard.”
