Georgetown Technical High School celebrates 15 years anniversary

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In 2007, Georgetown Technical High School (GTHS) first opened its doors to students in Georgetown, Stann Creek.

On September 14, 2022, the high school celebrated 15 years of providing education to students in that community.

The celebration was held under the theme, “Building and serving a better community.”

Stann Creek West Area Representative, Rodwell Ferguson and Minister of Education Francis Fonseca joined in the celebrations.

“With very few amenities in place but that was the beginning of a great institution. Today 15 years after we were invited to its 15th birthday, Three of the original architects’ Hon Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Mr. Ervin Casimiro the principal of the school, and myself, we were happy to talk about its inception,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson noted that in 2008, the PUP lost the election but the stage was set for the building and development of the school.

“The conversation was going on with the European Union Banana support program. They say only faces change but the government remains and the work continued. The recent and present students of today do not feel the hardship that the students felt in their early years. Kerwin Ramirez Vice Chairman of Seine Bight and Iris Senteno our national female coach are good examples of the great institution. Iris you are determined and I never realized you were a valedictorian. Happy 15th birthday Georgetown Technical High School,” Ferguson added.

Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca also reminisced on how the high school opened its doors.

“In 2007 Minister Rodwell and I worked together to establish GTHS so it was a particular pleasure for us both to be there today to witness the growth and development of the institution which started under our watch,” Fonseca said.

Fonseca joined in congratulating the high school as they celebrate their 15 years anniversary.
