Floralia fires back at Belize Bus Association; Accuses them of trying to halt progress

By Benjamin Flowers: Floralia Belize, the country’s news bus company has issued a rebuttal to the Belize Bus Association (BBA), following a press conference the BBA held in Belize City yesterday.

At the conference, the BBA made a number of accusations against Floralia, including that the company was undermining the ability of bus operators to gain access to much-needed financing to upgrade their bus fleets.

In response Floralia issued a statement, alleging that the executive of the BBA has been “hijacked,” by a select few large operators that are making decisions to benefit themselves instead of the members and the public.

“These select BBA Executives are focused on HALTING any and all progress. They feel they OWN these routes, and they prefer the present system where Belizeans have NO option or choice for a better service. if it was up to them, Floralia would NOT be operating out of the South; and if the BBA have their way, Belizeans in the West and North will NEVER have the option to choose a service that offers Reliability, Safety, and Comfort,” Floralia said.

The company also accused the BBA of trying to “rob” Belizeans of the option to decide which operator they choose to do business with and ignoring the needs of commuters.

Meanwhile, Floralia continues to make its applications to the Government of Belize for its runs, while the BBA is preparing to have another meeting with the Department of Transport to discuss their grievances.
