By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Game Fish Association said that MarAlliance Belize released a mature Loggerhead turtle back into the Caribbean Sea.
The turtle had been rehabilitated and tagged with satellite tracking in Belize.
“Satellite telemetry answers key questions for sea turtle conservation, like the incredible distances they travel in-water and for females, details on important nesting grounds,” the association noted.
“As a highly endangered species, one more loggerhead sea turtle in Belizean waters is a conservation victory for all,” it noted.
Loggerhead turtles are named for their large heads that support powerful jaw muscles, allowing them to crush hard-shelled prey like clams and sea urchins.
