By Breaking Belize News Staff: A short while ago, Prime Minister Briceno expressed condolences to the people and government of Taiwan following the 6.8 earthquake that struck Taiwan on Sunday afternoon.
“At least one person has died after a strong earthquake shook much of Taiwan, toppling a three-story building and temporarily trapping four people inside, leaving about 400 tourists stranded on a mountain and derailing part of a train,” The Guardian reported.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and government of Taiwan 🇹🇼 following the 6.8 earthquake that affected south Eastern portions of the island nation. Our condolences in relation to the reported death and our prayers for those injured and affected by the destruction of buildings and properties. Our thoughts are with our Belizean students, especially those within proximity to the affected areas,” the Prime Minister posted on his Facebook page.
Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes.
