By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man from a group of three who were busted with illegal jaguar skin inside a Belize City house, accepted the charge so that the other two could go free.
Police searched a house on Louis Bevans Street on Wednesday, September 15, and found the jaguar skin hidden inside a sofa. Present at the time were 28-year-old Douglas David Ventura, 35-year-old Marlon Foreman, and 43-year-old Juan Manuel Ábrego.
The group was taken before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, and all were charged with a single count of unlawful possession of forestry produce.
In court, Ventura immediately pleaded guilty to the charge, telling the Senior Magistrate “These two men had nothing to do with this.”
Ventura was fined $10,000 plus a $45 court fee. He has to pay these fines by December 30th, 2022 or he will spend a year in jail for default.
