Woman dies after being knocked off her motorcycle in southern Belize

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 34-year-old woman from Bella Vista Village, Toledo District, is dead following a road traffic accident on the Southern Highway last night.

Police say that they arrived on the scene near Mile 50 on the highway around 7:30 p.m. to find the wreckage of the motorcycle that had been ridden by Elisa Payaz and the pickup truck that crashed into her.

Payaz was transported to the Independence Polyclinic where she died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the pickup, 43-year-old Jose Douglas Eliazar Hernandez, alleges that he was driving behind Payaz when she made a sudden left turn and they collided.

He has since given a sample to police to test his blood alcohol content.

Police investigations are ongoing.
