By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today is being commemorated as National Service Day across the nation in honor of the Father of the Nation, Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price.
Price was Belize’s First Minister and Premier and the first Prime Minister after Belize gained Independence.
It is the day that Price died after a lifetime of service to Belize. The day is set aside to give service to our communities in memory of Price’s legacy.
Belmopan Area Representative, Oscar Mira says that this year with the collaboration of RECONDEV, the Nazarene Church, and members of the community, the park between United Evergreen Primary and the Nazarene Church was refurbished cleaned, and painted.
The park was officially named Idolly Cabb Park. Cabb was a primary school teacher who taught for many years at this very school. In those days, it was called Belmopan Infant School.
“It was wonderful to name this park in her honor and even more wonderful that her family members were present to witness it. Thank you to the Belmopan UWG, the Belmopan BYM, the Nazarene Church, Raquel from Raquel Art as well as teachers from United Evergreen who all came out to our Service day activity. Also present were our Mayor, councilors, staff of RECONDEV, Staff from Builders Hardware, and other members of the community! Special thanks to Mrs. Cabb’s son, grandson, daughter-in-law, and other family members who were our guests of honor,” Mira stated.
“Belize, with the help of God and the support of its people, will stand upright and will do its duty and help bring peace, stability, and prosperity to our region and to wider circles of our planet Earth~” George Cadle Price.
