BREAKING: Tsunami warning issued in Mexico

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Just after 1pm today, Mexico was shook by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake.

A Tsunami warning has been issued for Mexico, CNN reports.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that tsunami waves reaching up to 3 meters could hit Mexico. It is possible that initial tsunami waves already occurred in coastal locations such as Manzanillo and Acapulco, and could strike tourist hotspot Puerto Vallarta.

Tsunami waves less than 0.3 meters could also occur along the Pacific coasts of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru, the Center noted.

Data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) say that the epicenter of the quake occurred in Michoacan state, near the coastline.

The news comes on the 5th anniversary of the 2017 earthquake that killed 216 people in Mexico City.
