By Benjamin Flowers: Leader of the Opposition, Moses Shyne Barrow, met with members of the diplomatic corps this weekend and said that the event went well.
Barrow posted about the meeting on his Facebook page earlier today, noting that his keynote address focused on the work of the opposition in protecting democracy in Belize.
Barrow emphasized what he felt were the many failures of the current People’s United Party administration, including the ongoing energy crisis with the exorbitant prices of gasoline, the economy, high cost of living, government borrowing at a rate of $2 million per day, and social safety support programs being done away with, among other things.
“Our commitment to Democracy, Freedom and Independence must be renewed with every policy decision we make. Not everyone believes in the freedoms we enjoy…freedom to elect our Governments and Heads of State, freedom of press, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc.
We must constantly toil to strengthen and sustain our Democracy,” Barrow said.
He went on to say that, as the Opposition, the UDP will continue to fight for the Belizean people by holding the government accountable, and advocating for the best public policies.
