BREAKING: Prime Minister John Briceño: Belizean flags stolen from Territorial Volunteers returned to Embassy in Guatemala

Posted: Wednesday, September 21, 2022. 10:09 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño has announced that the two Belizean flags taken from the Belize Territorial Volunteers have been returned to the Belize Embassy in Guatemala.

He addressed the matter at the start of his Independence Day Address in response to the Leader of the Opposition who mentioned it and whose performance he called “embarrassing” and for which he apologized to guests, saying, “…if you want to fight tomorrow let’s fight.”

The Territorial Volunteers were on their annual pre-Independence Day visit to Sarstoon Island when they were aggressed by Guatemalan armed forces that insisted they were in Guatemalan territory and took their flags after they planted them on the island.

We will have more from the Territorial Volunteers later on.
