Guatemalan national found guilty of immigration offense to be deported

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Guatemalan national charged with an immigration offense is set to be deported back to his country.

Twenty-one-year-old Kenroy Gamboa, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with failure to produce a visitors permit on demand.

Gamboa immediately pleaded guilty to the charge and he was fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court. He had to pay these fines immediately or face six months in prison. The Immigration Department also requested a removal order which was granted.

When asked if he had anything to say in his defense, he said that he has been living in Belize since he was a year old. The defense was not strong enough so he was found guilty.

He was sent to the Belize Central Prison until he either pays his fine or serves his time, and then he will be deported.
On September 19, Immigration Department personnel asked Gamboa to produce documentation to show that he was in the country legally. He was unable to do so and was therefore charged.
