Man charged over $800 for biting his wife during a domestic dispute

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belizean/American who bit his wife in the face during a domestic dispute was fined in court this week. 

Thirty-three-year-old Dexter Slusher appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with a single count of harm.

Slusher, who has been in Belize for the past nine months, wasted no time and pleaded guilty to the offense. He was fined $800 plus $5 cost of court, which he had to pay immediately or face six months in jail. 

The Magistrate warned him that the offense could have carried a three-year prison term but it was taken into consideration that he is a first-offender.

In court, he explained that, during the dispute on September 18, he tried to walk away from his wife but she refused to let him do so. He said that as the situation continued to escalate, he was impeded from leaving, and he lost control and lashed out in frustration. He admitted that he was truly sorry for what he had done.
