By Benjamin Flowers: Police say that the fatal chopping incident that claimed 43-year-old Bernard Timmons yesterday was not connected to the Orange Walk Carnival.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood, explained that police were called out to an area in Orange Walk Town on the Belize/Corozal road, where they found Timmons with chop wounds to the neck.
Timmons was reportedly waiting for a family member to buy food when a man walked up to him and attacked him with a machete, causing his injuries. He was rushed to the Northern Regional hospital where he later died shortly after.
“Investigators are saying that they were briefed that a fight took place at that location…but it has nothing to do with the actual Orange Walk Carnival. They are saying that the event took place some distance away from where the carnival took place,” Yearwood said.
There are several people detained but no suspects charged as yet. Police are exploring an angle that the altercation that led to the fatal chopping may have stemmed from a dispute regarding where Timmons had parked his car, as well as other leads.
