“Body found in Orange Walk this morning identified as a 50-year-old fish vendor,” police say

By Benjamin Flowers: Police have identified the body found on the Chan Pine Ridge Road, Orange Walk District, this morning as 50-year-old fish vendor Sergio Valdes.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, said that Valdes’s body was found on the road sometime after 6:00 a.m. today, with visible injuries on him.

“His address is unknown at this time, but investigators have been out there since the body was found earlier, canvassing the area and trying to see what they can find,” Yearwood said. “Investigators say he had injuries to the face.”

Yearwood said that the preliminary report did not indicate any state of decomposition. While this could imply that the body was placed there recently, Yearwood said police will await the formal report from investigators.
