Altitude vs San Pedro Pirates: the biggest PLB attraction this weekend

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The encounter between Premier League of Belize subchampions and present second-place Altitude and third-place San Pedro Pirates is the biggest attraction this weekend in Belize’s top flight football championship. The two meet Saturday at 7:30 pm at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.

Altitude have 18 points. A victory can push them up to first place past Verdes, at least for a day as it did last week. A win for San Pedro will move them up to 17 points. They would still be third but would secure the spot.

The other game on Saturday features Bandits and Wagiya at 7:30 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in capital Belmopan. Wagiya are in third place with 11 points, tied with Progresso, and a victory can ensure they remain in third place.

The Bandits are in last place with two points and anything that is not a loss is favourable.

On Sunday, champions Verdes host Progresso at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio at 4:00 pm on Sunday.

A win maintains the Green Machine at the top over Altitude. Depending on Altitude’s score on Saturday, a draw or loss may still be favourable.

Fourth-place Progresso are hoping for a win but a draw wouldn’t be bad against the champs.

At the same time, Port Layola play at the MCC Grounds in Belize City against Benque Viejo United.

Port Layola have ten points and are in sixth place. A win or draw may send them over Wagiya and/or Progresso.

The Benque side are aiming for a win but will take a draw in Belize City.
