Tropical Depression 9 continues to strengthen in the Caribbean; Could become a major category 3 hurricane by next week

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Tropical Depression 9 formed this morning in Florida and could impact Florida by next week, forecasters say.

TD9 is forecast to strengthen as it moves across the Caribbean this weekend and takes a turn towards South Florida early next week.

TD9 could become a major category 3 hurricane around southwest Florida on Wednesday morning.

On the forecast track, the center of the cyclone is forecast to move across the central Caribbean Sea through Saturday, pass south of Jamaica on Saturday night and Sunday, and approach the Cayman Islands on Sunday night and early Monday.

Forecasters are closely looking at the impacts it could have in Florida as a major storm.
