San Pedro Traffic Control Committee warns of illegal vehicles on the island

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Traffic Control Committee in San Pedro Ambergris Caye issued a notice warning residents of illegal vehicles on the island.

“We hereby notify the public that you shall not proceed to purchase any vehicle on Ambergris Caye without first obtaining a valid permit issued by the Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee,” the statement said.

Any vehicle found in violation of the law shall be forfeited immediately in accordance with the below regulation: 

“Any person who by any act or omission, contravenes or fails to comply with any provision of these regulations commits an offense and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, and in addition, every vehicle brought into, kept, used, driven, parked or otherwise dealt with on the Caye in contravention of these regulations shall be forfeited.”

The public is also reminded that there is currently a moratorium on new 6-seater golf cart permits.
