By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has determined that Leon Perez, the man accused of the September 21 stabbing murder of 28-year-old Elston Morter, has a case to answer for in court.
Today, Perez, who was represented by attorney Ian Gray, was told that his case was committed to the January 2023 session of the Supreme Court.
Morter’s defense will be that of an alibi, and he was given formal instructions on how to provide a person or people who would account for his whereabouts at the time of Morter’s death.
Morter, a Seaman (SN) with the Belize Coast Guard, was stabbed on Independence Day, September 21, 2021, in Hattieville Village while he and a friend went to confront a man whom he had an argument with.
He was stabbed during the confrontation and died of his injuries around 4:15 p.m. that day.
Perez was later arrested and charged for murder.
