Police confident of arrest in Jeffrey Coats murder; several persons questioned

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that several people have been questioned in connection with the murder of nightclub owner Jeffrey Allen Coats early Sunday morning in San Ignacio Town.

After shooting Coats as many as nine times in front of his establishment, the Replay Night Club, the assailants who were on a motorcycle reportedly took a bag from him containing certain items which have since been recovered. Police say Coats was not known to carry money with him.

As for a potential motive, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood said the robbery had not been ruled out because of the bag taken from Coats, who had parked his motorcycle across the street from the nightclub to wait for his common-law partner when he was ambushed.

Police are also investigating other possible connections to recent incidents in the Twin Towns including the murder of Matthew Smith, and are confident of soon making an arrest.
